Devin Wesley (b. 1993) is a Los Angeles based artist whose black-and-white oil paintings explore identity and the tension between perception and self-definition. A former track and field athlete, Wesley draws from lived experiences navigating environments shaped by traditional ideas of masculinity and Blackness. He now uses portraiture as a tool for self-authorship, exploring the ways Black men define themselves in defiance of societal expectations and expanding how they are seen and understood.

His work emerges from navigating multiple worlds simultaneously: being Black in predominantly white spaces, being gay within the culture of competitive athletics, and carrying tenderness in a world that often demands unwavering strength. Through the interplay of light and shadow, Wesley explores the contradictions that make a person whole. Rather than allowing any one quality to define his subjects, Wesley creates space for Black men to exist in their full complexity, beyond the assumptions and archetypes historically projected onto them.

Beyond the canvas, Wesley's practice extends into cultural dialogue and social impact. He has collaborated with Pressed Juicery, Pattern Beauty, Adobe, YouTube Originals, and BET on projects addressing racial equity and mental wellness. His work has been presented in curated exhibitions including Frieze Los Angeles (2024), and in 2026 he was named Art Melanated's Emerging Artist Grand Prize Winner and a recipient of the NAACP Orange County Advocacy Award for his contributions to art and community impact.
